Concrete and reinforced concrete surface treatment agent
Intended Use
«Hydroisol-ITH» is intended for treatment of concrete and reinforced concrete surfaces to improve waterproofing qualities, frost resistance and strength of concrete structures. «Hydroisol-ITH» is used to as a waterproofing agent in construction, repairs and renovation of concrete and reinforced concrete structures of crack resistance class I, II and III (with crack growth in structures of up to 0.4 mm); exterior and interior surfaces enveloping structures of residential houses and public and industrial facilities, hydraulic engineering and water treatment structures, filters, and drinking water reservoirs.
«Hydroisol-ITH» protects concrete and reinforced concrete structures against effects of water environments (including waste and ground water and seawater) and aggressive media (including acids, alkali, petroleum products etc.). The Product improves corrosion resistance of concrete, and prevents corrosion of steel reinforcement bars.
Principle of Action
«Hydroisol-ITH» is applied to interior or exterior surfaces of concrete structures regardless of whether such surfaces are affected by liquid or not. As soon as «Hydroisol-ITH» is applied, the functional chemical additives will be dissolved in water and penetrate the wet concrete through its pores. Once inside the concrete, the additives will interact with calcium and aluminum oxides and form insoluble needle-shapes crystalline hydrates filling capillaries, microcracks and pores in the concrete. The speed of formation of the insoluble crystalline hydrates depends on some factors such as concrete moisture, porosity and temperature. This prevents capillary penetration of water into the concrete and the concrete structure gradually becomes waterproof. Some water in concrete pores is chemically bound into complex crystalline hydrates, which results in formation of low porosity structures making the concrete steam-tight. Steam tightness of concrete will facilitate removal of the remaining moisture from concrete and, thus, result in its «complete drying».
As soon as concrete is dry, the water-soluble functional chemical additives that have not reacted will crystallize and remain in concrete pores. If any new source of liquid emerges, the water-soluble additives will turn into saturated saline solution and form additional needle-shaped insoluble structures of crystalline hydrates and make the concrete «self-curing». Within 60 days the functional additives will penetrate the concrete to at least 0.5 m (the speed of penetration in the concrete model composition is 2·10-6 m/s at 0.1 m). That is why partial destruction of concrete (provided that it remains integral) will not impair the waterproofness of the concrete structure.
